Say His Name

Abri Chavez

“Tell them to say my name.” Candyman, a game that people would play for fun. But little did they know, that would be the one and only time they play. People would look in a mirror, then they would say “Candyman” 5 times. The tale is said that after they have said his name, he will come and kill you a few moments later. Candyman was an African American guy, who had bees covering half his face and body, and he had a hook for a hand. There are 2 movies. The first one was made in 1992 and the remake was made in 2021. In the new movie, a man named Anthony does a bunch of research on this game called “candyman.” No one had said that name in years until Anthony decided to do research. Candyman had handpicked Anthony to be the future of Candyman.

This movie had quite a bit of known actors and actresses. Yahya Abdul-Mateen II (Anthony)  was the main character in the movie. Tony Todd plays as the first ever Candyman. He is involved in both movies. Teyonah Parris starred in this movie as Anthony's Wife. These were mostly the main characters. The movie mostly revolved around Yahya Abdul-Mateen II and Tony Todd. Tony Todd was also the main character of the first movie. The directors of the “Candyman” movies were Bernard Rose(1992) and Nia DaCosta(2021).

This movie is part of the Horror/Thriller genre. This movie was actually really gory and not so scary. I think the reason it's rated-R is because of all the blood and killing. My mom is so terrified of this movie but it didn't really scare me. It's kind of like Scream and Halloween. Candyman cant necessarily be killed. Candyman didn't wear a mask so his identity. People were mostly only able to see him through some kind of reflection. Even during the film making of this movie they made sure they did not say “Candyman” 5 times in a row. They did cut scenes to make sure they were safe. It’s a really thrilling movie though. Makes you want to play the game and see if Candyman comes for you.

My all time favorite scary movie is Nightmare On Elm Street but i must say this might be really close to becoming my new favorite. It was exciting, thrilling, suspenseful, and unexpected. The movie goes into detail about who the Candyman was and how he came about. The movie will keep you guessing. I give this movie a 8-10. The ending made it seem like there is going to be another movie but probably not. I highly recommend that you watch this movie. Lights out, cold night, under a blanket, with a friend (or if you’re brave enough, alone), some popcorn and you’re all set for a good spooky night. And don't forget...Say his name 5 times in a mirror for a sweet surprise.

-Candyman-

How to play: Look into the mirror. Say His Name. 5 times. Candyman.

Disclaimer: Do at your own risk, I am not responsible for any unexpected or strange actions that happen after you choose to play.

Dark Place

By: Ruben Vigil

October 5, 2007, Jeremy Hugh, age 37, height 5”8, was Last seen on Minnesota park and Westgate Bridge. Suddenly disappeared at 9:07 pm. Why did he get kidnapped? Who was the kidnapper? What exactly happened…

It was a normal day in Southwind, Georgina. The weather was nice, nothing was going on and just felt like a normal day. Jeremy Hugh would later have gone missing along with many others. I went to investigate these disappearances, so first I asked family and friends if they knew of his whereabouts and if they knew anyone that had anything against Jeremy. All of them said no, that he went out one day randomly last night saying nothing and he did not have any enemies. I then went out to check the cameras around the city and found that he was last seen at Minnesota park and Westgate bridge 3.5 miles from his home. When we made it to the bridge there were no traces of anybody being there in years. It was deserted and infested with moss. Suddenly a cold breeze hit and I felt the urge to check further down and into the woods. It was like I belonged there and that something was dragging me to go into the woods…

Once I made it into the woods I looked around for any traces of Jeremy or anyone. Suddenly I heard some noise rustling like someone was whispering something to me but I couldn't make out what they were saying. I went to investigate the sound but when I made it to where the sound was there was nothing there. I looked ahead and there was an abandoned cabin. I thought to myself, “Why would there be a cabin in the middle of the woods?” I was skeptical but decided to take a look into the cabin and see if Jeremy was inside along with all the other mysterious disappearances.

I looked around and there was furniture, clothes torn up on the floor, and cold food. I had an eerie feeling there, so I decided to call for backup on my phone that I was using as a flashlight. I then realized I had no signal at all. I figured I was in the middle of the woods alone in an abandoned cabin. I started to get an eerie feeling… like someone was watching me…

The door behind me slammed shut. I turned to look but there was still nothing there. I started to panic and looked for a way to leave the place but the windows were barricaded and there was no way out. I started to hear those whispering again but this time instead of going to the sounds I was trying to pull the door open. The whispering sounds started getting closer and closer to me when I turned around and two arms reached out for me and grabbed me. I then saw two blank eyes that looked like Jeremy’s. The last thing I saw before I died was hundreds of people trapped in Jeremy’s eyes screaming for help. After all this time I was looking for Jeremy but instead, now I'm the one looking for people to kill taking his place...

 Halloween’s Psycho Killer

  By Yulisa Trujillo

Today I'm going to be reviewing a movie called Halloween. The movie is about a man who was in a psychopath facility. He one day was getting transported to a different psycho facility and he made the bus driver crash, he and the other prisoners escaped. Anyone that gets in his way he hurts them. This guy is Michael Myers . Michael then goes on to find his mom who adopted him. She's been on the hunt to kill Michael because of his evilness.

Michael kills people along the way, lets just say he kills lots and lots of people that we can’t even keep count . Michael’s crazy doctor who takes care of him takes him to Laurie, his mom who adopted him because he wants to see what would happen between Michael and Laurie . Both of them have feelings about each other and the way things have happened in the past and Laurie is tired of the way he hurts and kills people. He has no remorse whatsoever. Anywho his doctor finds his adoptive mothers house and she is ready for him because she knew that he escaped the bus and everytime he was able to escape he would go after Laurie and her family , she has a built in basement under her island in her kitchen.

They fought and she tried to get him to the bottom of the basement where Karen was to lead him down there to make it seem like he had an easy way of getting to her and Allyson. Michael proceeds to go down there and they hit him in the head to get him a little slower and run up the stairs. Michael gets ahold of karen's leg and Allyson slices his hand with a knife and Lauri had pulled a lever to get medal bars to come out and block the way of him trying to get out and she was successful at it and she started the whole basement on fire where michael remained so she could burn him alive and that's exactly what she did . She and her daughter , and granddaughter left the house where it was on fire and saw a fire truck going towards the house and she was mad and crying on the way to the hospital but you have to watch the new Halloween that just came out to find out what happens .

The main actors of this scary movie are Jamie Lee Curtis who plays the adoptive mom Laurie , Nick Castle who plays Michael Myers , Andi Matichak who plays Lauries granddaughter Allyson, and Judy Greer who plays Laurie's daughter and Allysons mom. The director of this movie is David Gordon Green . Compared to other horror movies they all are kind of the same in some ways they go hand in hand with murders and pop ups and suspense.

I liked this movie because it's just a lot of suspense and you never know what is going to happen next. Michael Myers is just really creepy and really psycho , he never dies and when they think he's down and dead he just gets right back up so yes I do really like this movie . I give this movie a 4.5 out of a total of 5 points .

Lie and Die

By Leslie Gamboa

In the movie “Truth or Dare” there's a group of college students that rent a house. It was all from one of the friends' ideas: he rented a haunted house. While they're in this house they all agree to play a game that's obviously called “Truth or Dare”. While these eight friends begin to play the game they see that the dares and truths were not written from any of the six college friends. An evil spirit begins to control the game and starts telling them what dares to do. There's hardly any Truths and a lot of truths if one of the players lies in a “Truth” they die.  If they don't do a dare under the certain amount of time the spirit gave them they die!

This scary movie was directed by Nick Simon. He was born on February 2, 1973 he is 48 years old and was 44 years old when he released this movie. There's eight main characters in this movie, their names are Harvey Guillen, Ricardo Hoyos, Mason Dye, Cassandra Scebro, Brytni Sarpy, Alexxis Lemire, Luke Baines and last but not least Christina Masterson. They are all really good actors. I really liked this movie because the scenes were really believable. Most scary movies I watch the actors don't really know how to move in the scene and it throws off the whole thing.

There's a movie called “Bird Box '' on Netflix, it's in the same genre and it's also an interesting movie. I hate when i click into a scary movie and i auntomatically know the ending of the movie because of how dumb it is. Bird Box is different, it's like Truth or dare it's just a completely different setting and scene. The only thing they really have in common is them both being scary movies. In the movie Bird Box there's times where the scenes will make you jump. Of Course that also depends on what you're watching it on and how loud you're watching it. I love being able to actually jump from a little fear of a scary movie.

I did like the movie Truth or Dare. I watched it and I didn't grab my phone once. Usually I'll get distracted throughout movies and get on my phone but the whole time I was invested in the movie. One thing I could complain about though would be the ending. I didn't really like the ending. Like I said before, movies can be pretty boring and you'll know the ending but this one was interesting and the ending just left me unsatisfied. A good ending would be something that leaves you with questions asking yourself what's going to happen next and being anxious about it. That way when they make the second movie it can reveal more things and keep the movie going. I would give this movie a 4 star out of 5.

A Spiritual Eclipse

By America Carillo

The movie I will be reviewing is the movie called Veronica. This movie was released on August 25, 2017. This movie was based on a true story. You can now find It streaming on Netflix and Pluto tv.

This movie is about a girl who plays the Ouija board during a solar eclipse at school. The point of the girl’s playing the Ouija board was that Veronica (the main character) wanted to contact her deceased father. During the ¨game¨ weird occurrences happen where the glass they used as a planchette begins to move to Veronica as the spirit or being wanted to communicate with her. Rosa and Diana (Veronica’s friends) took off their finger and Veronica, still with her finger on the planchet, was moving around with where the planchet was going on the board. Her friends were there for moral support for her.

Diana and Rosa took off their fingers as they felt a burning sensation, however Veronica still had her finger on the glass. As her friends increasingly get worried about her because she had become silent, the glass breaks and Veronica bleeds on the board. Her friends look for her and find her on the floor where they hear her repeating the day when she was going to die. From then on scary occurrences began happening to her. She would have strange dreams and would see things that were not actually there.

At the end of the movie we discover that she was the monster all along. A spirit had entered her and was manipulating her thoughts. She was found dead in the apartment she lived in. I love this movie, this movie was the perfect amount of scary. I love scary movies that are based on a true story. I think it was foolish of the girls trying to contact someone from the other side, especially on the day of an eclipse.

Eclipses are very spiritual and have meaning and just playing this during the eclipse; or playing this at all was very dumb. I do feel bad for Veronica though, I do think she deserved a better ending because she only wanted to contact her dad. It’s like, how was she supposed to know that it was wrong to try and talk to her dad. Then again, she knew that she was not supposed to play the game. In doing so, she did not do well in school and scared her sibling

Sandra Escacena plays Veronica, Ivan Chavero plays Antonito the little brother of Veronica ,Claudia Placer and Bruna Gonzalez play the younger sisters of Veronica,

Consuelo Trujillo plays the Nun , and Paco Plaza was the director of Veronica. Overall I think this movie was one of the best movies I’ve seen. It’s also definitely one of the scariest movies that I’ve seen. This movie was one of the few that has scared me, Especially because it’s based on a true story. I think because this movie actually scared me, it’s better than the other movies in the ¨horror¨ genre.

If I had to rate this movie I would give it a 90%. I would give this movie a 90% because it was scary but it wasn’t petrifying. I didn’t like the end, and I think the person reading this would not like the ending as well because it was a plot twist. I am not a fan of plot twists and I think she deserved to live. I wanted her to live so bad, but overall I really liked it and I would recommend watching this movie if you want to be spooked

The Monster Man Saved Us!

By Jacqueline Serna

The movie Hubie Halloween came out in 2020, the year everyone was struggling and dying and filled with stress. I think this movie was amazing and something good is finally happening since we all believed nothing was going to get better. This movie mixed amazing people into one movie. When it was announced that this movie would come soon I was excited. The cast was perfect for a comedy, not to mention Adam Sandler was the protagonist in this movie. I'd say this movie was well scripted, sending its viewers a good message while also making them laugh.

The cast is starring Adam Sandler, Peyton List, Paris Berelc, Noah Schnapp, June Squibb and Julie bowen. If you're not familiar with this cast then let me just tell you they can act out a good comedy. They are very loved actors and some even from disney channel which makes this movie all that exciting. This was such a good thing to happen to us teennagers at the time, maybe we all got a little too excited.

Personally I loved it, I love the message, their message or theme is to “not judge a book by its cover” and be nice to them. Hubie, the main character, seems different than everyone else, he appears to be a grown man but he goes to a highschool, which makes the kids pick on him plus the fact that he appears “stupid”. But the truth is that he's actually very intelligent and creates amazing inventions that  have a good purpose. He's also such a sweet soul and is nice to everyone even if they just push him. Everyone bullies this character but there was a “killer” on the loose and it seems to have brought all these characters together.

In the end Hubie catches the killer and saves his bullies from being burned to death. That is how the bullies come to their senses and realize that they were wrong to bully Hubie. That's where the viewer can recognize that the message is to be nice to everyone. I think this message should be spread and heard because bullying is still an issue and needs to end, people like Hubie are strong. If you're a hubie, I'm sorry, keep being you, there's nothing wrong with you don't let them tell you otherwise. I know you're an amazing person, stick with people that love and support you. Hubie has that person, it was his mother, it doesn't have to be a friend, it can be a parent or guardian. The comedy in this movie wasn't the type to make you do crunches and get abs, but it did make you chuckle.

Although there is one thing I should mention, this movie isn't for kids. It does have some cursing and sexual jokes, this movie is more for adults and teens. It's okay though because I'm sure the kids wouldn't understand anyway. This movie gave me a good memory during 2020, the year of the covid 19 pandemic. I'm glad I watched this movie, I liked it and hope other viewers say the same, if not that's okay. This movie is not scary, it'll have you thinking about it.

The Aliens Are Among Us

   By Felipe and Caitlyn

Many people believe that there is something going on in Area 51. A secretive government location that could be hiding extremely remarkable or  disturbing things. Such as strange life forms not from around here or weapons that can destroy our world as we know it. Though many think this it is still just a conspiracy theory. We asked a few people around the school about their opinions on this place.

All the people we interviewed said that it was real and there was something big going on inside. “Aliens and experiments or even abnormal people” said Naomi, a student at Atrisco Heritage Academy. She even brought up the possibility of a time machine  being created inside it’s walls. Shelly Kelly even said they could be “Hiding everything from us”. Making the possibilities endless, which can be scary.

But that brings us to another question: should we know what's inside? “Yes if it doesn’t affect our safety “ Timothy Croften, a teacher here stated. Which wasn’t fully the popular opinion because on the other hand Naomi said that we shouldn’t cause “I feel like we wouldn’t be able to handle it. Our mind would be blown”. Which Shelly agreed with saying “People would panic” especially with how people are in current times.

One thing they did all agree on was that there are weapons. Such as “Military hardware” according to Croften or “lots of technology and aliens and super humans” Shelly added.

But to sum up this mysterious subject  not many know what is going on inside those walls. But we all have similar ideas and boy if they are true then we have a big storm coming our way.

Pinky P or Psycho P?

   by Celine Grothe

Horror movies might be scary, but do they just play with your mind so you think everything scares you after watching it or are you actually scared? What’s about the stories that are based on a real crime story, the ones that can happen to you or already happened in the past. Do they get you more? Are they more interesting to you? Peter Shallow lives in Portland, Oregon in a small wooden house near the Keller Fountain park UP Town. Portland is a pretty city but has some mysterious secrets. When he was younger, his classmates called him Pinky P, because his skin was so light, everyone wondered if he would ever go out in the sun. If the sun is there. Sometimes he didn’t go to school and spent weeks absent. Gossip and conspiracies were spread through the whole school. Some people thought he would do some weird experiments at home, and that’s the reason for his absence. Therefore, they pretended not to care but they actually did more than they wanted to. But what was Peter Shallow actually doing?

On one day, when he was absent again, a boy's group of four decided to visit him in his crappy wooden house. That was what they called it, because it wasn’t in it’s best condition. When they got there, they couldn’t believe that someone actually lived there. The house is covered in green plants, the wood is looking wet and damaged, dirt is coming down from the roof.

One of the boys tried to open the fence door, it was locked. So they decided to jump over it and got onto private property. They knew that Peter was known as psycho or a weirdo, but they didn’t take it seriously. Peter, that is inside of the house, saw his classmates walking around in his yard. He was tired of everything. His life, his parents and his school life. He grabbed the biggest kitchen knife and walked out of the door, he screamed “If you are not leaving my property I’m going to harm you.” The four boys weren’t interested in what he was saying and just began to laugh. Peter repeated himself, but no one stopped laughing or began thinking about leaving. He ran into the group, pointing his knife on the chest of one of the boys and pushed the blade of the knife near his ribs.   No one is laughing anymore, just screaming. Blood is everywhere. Peter looks serious and ready to do it again if he has to. The three boys are running away and leaving their friend behind. Peter doesn’t react, he is just cold and leaves the boy laying on the ground. Blood around his chest, his whole t-shirt  covered in it, expanding more and more. He is just coughing and shivering, hoping that he can survive. Loud noises come up. Sirens from the police and ambulance?! Someone must have seen it or the boys have called the police. Kids can be mean, and unpredictable. The outcome of pinky P: His light skin was caused by a skin disease, he was not allowed to go out, the police found more blood inside of the house and towels that were soaked in blood. He killed his parents while they were asleep by tiling their blankets tight around the bed and pushing pillows on their heads so they couldn't breathe or escape. He wrapped them in towels afterwards, to hide them in the woods. They were so tight that they got wounds and left prints on the towels. Peter said “He wanted to have the towels as souvenirs so he never forgets what he did.” He ended up in a Psychiatric Hospital.

The Seven Gates of Hell

By Anyamaree Clauss

I have told everyone I know this story but no one has ever believed me, they always say, “oh you and your imagination”. But, I know it was true and that night was not just a dream or my imagination. Let's start with a backstory, I was born in Hellam, Pennsylvania. Ever since I was little, I’ve heard the story of The Seven Gates of Hell. As you pass each gate, the horror escalates more and more until you pass the 7th gate which is hell itself.

When I was 17, I was obsessed with scary stories and wanted to see if the story of The Seven Gates of Hell were true. So, I made plans to go with my best friend. We decided to go on a night with a full moon so it was clear. We had arrived at the first gate, nothing felt off. We joked around as we walked and then, there it was, the second gate. We climbed over the second gate expecting to hear any night noises but it was dead silent. Between the second and third gate it felt like something was watching us. I pointed and said, “look, do you see glowing eyes from the distance?”. It looked like a cat's eyes at night, glowing and watching you. As we climbed the fourth gate, the eyes were still there. The only noise that could be heard was the one we made when we got to the fifth gate. We were both thinking we should go back but we decided to at least go to the sixth gate.

We climbed the fifth gate and less than a minute later, I hit the ground and shouted, “what the..” Then, my best friend flew to the ground as well and as I was watching her getting pushed to the ground, I saw a shadow wiz pass. We ran to the sixth gate. My best friend pointed out a shadow man with another set of glowing eyes. Now there were two sets of eyes, one on each side of us. When we looked up, there was the sixth gate. As we climbed the sixth gate, I turned around and we both screamed. Now, there must have been hundreds of glowing eyes looking at us. Some of the figures were only shadows but, as we moved closer to them we could see their faces. Their bodies looked burnt with melted flesh, oozing wonds, and torn, chard clothes. Others were normal, mangled with bent and broken necks. All of them seemed to be coming for us. We started climbing because we thought if that one shadow from earlier could push us, who knows what the rest of them could do. I yelled. “ go, go, go!”  I was halfway over the gate when one of the shadow figures grabbed my calf, leaving a burn. It was almost like a birthmark that I never had before. I made it over and looked back to see a grinning mangled face staring back at me.

As we were running back, that shadow figure was back once again, his eyes following us. We climbed back over the fifth gate, one set of eyes watching us now as it became quiet. We climbed over the remaining gates until there were no more eyes watching us. As we reached the first gate, we climbed over and ran home, vowing to never go back again.

Who cares about time?!

By Celine Grothe

School lunches can suck sometimes, especially when the food is so bad that you have to bring your own lunch. That is just one angle to think about school lunches. What is about the time we have or we don’t have? Three students of the Atrisco Heritage High School Academy will share their opinions and experiences about their time at school lunches.

Time not only affects lunch but breakfast as well. Kamya Vallo, a Sophomore at Atrisco High School, honestly says  that she does eat in the morning sometimes, but it is too early to be hungry so she does it less. A study by the School of Public Health, University of Minnesota states that Kamaya is not the only one. When it comes to eating breakfast in the morning more than 59 percent of teenagers skip it because they are not hungry or don’t have the time. Joshua Perfetti, a senior at the High School, shares a similar experience as Kamaya. He says  he is not able to eat in the morning because of the time he has to get up. “I’m picking up a friend every morning to give him a ride, so I never have time to eat something in the morning.” Cheyenne Elwell, a Sophomore who is visiting the same school, has a different opinion and shares that it depends on the day, but sometimes she has to get up so early or even earlier to try to eat breakfast, because school starts at 7:25. She states “Sometimes I’m just running late and I don’t have the time.”

Being in a rush by changing classes it seems hard to eat something before lunch. That is why a necessary question should be answered.  Is it possible to eat in between classes and lunch or are you hungry during the first three periods?  Kamya thinks that the lunch is late so she is getting hungry during the periods, but for her it depends on the day. She can’t control it, she is hungry on some days and on other days not especially when she does not eat in the morning. Cheyenne shared “I just like to have a small snack even if it’s just yogurt” because she gets hungry during the first period. “Lunch does not start until noon”, so she is trying to eat snacks in between but that is not possible all the time by changing classes and wearing masks. Josh thinks the same, it is possible by having a small snack in the bag and eating it while changing classes but other

wise it is impossible and you are not able to eat a whole meal.

Shouldn’t students have more time for their lunch, when they don’t have the time to eat in the morning or in between classes?! We will see what Kamaya, Josh and Cheyenne have to say about that topic. For Kamya, it is clear that the students at the Atrisco Heritage High School have a lot of time during lunch. “At least it is enough to hang out and to eat”, she said. Kamaya ended the sentence with “But sometimes I have to remind myself to eat.” She also mentioned that the lines for grabbing lunch are too long most of the time. Which makes it even harder. Cheyenne shares another perspective, she finds they do not have enough time during lunch. She is telling us about a situation that happened to her yesterday. “Me and my friends went to get our lunch, but after we got it, it was already 12:15 so we had only about 15 minutes left”. “You don’t need an hour”, so Josh. He thinks 40 minutes is enough for lunch and we should not have more time. Studies show that speed-eating is associated with a risk of gaining weight or getting obese and feeling still hungry after eating something, so the study of Clean Eating and Healthline. Fast eating and being hungry afterwards is not the clue of eating. Setting a time that would work for everyone, especially for slow eaters might be a good solution. “I would say 25-40 minutes”, that's what Kamaya thinks would be best for the students to have enough time to eat, and time for a little break. If Cheyenne could decide, she would say that the lunch at least should be an hour or 45 minutes to have enough time to calm down and to eat. Which is important because teenagers need their time to relax and eat something, when they did not eat any breakfast.

The Atrisco Heritage High School has more than two thousand students that are having lunch almost every day. Is it possible to change something by having so many people going to this school? Kamaya tells me that we just have to deal with it how it is, we can not change something. Because it is how the school set it.  “I think we could!” optimistic words, Cheyenne has a great idea of taking ten minutes of each class to add it to our lunch for having more time during lunch.

Kamaya and Cheyenne do not share the same opinion, but what do you think? Are our lunches too long, or too short or accurate? Studies definitely show us that it's not good to eat fast because it can take risks or can have an impact on our eating behaviour. Breakfast is still one of the most important meals of the day because most of the energy we need is in our food, furthermore it breaks our overnight fasting period and replenishes our supply of glucose to boost our energy levels as well as alertness.

Oh no  young girls showing the slightest bit of shoulder

        THinK Of The ChILdReN!!!

       By Caitlyn Torres

Over the years you have probably heard about people's thoughts on the inequality of a school dress code. Where the boys are often seen as allowed to wear whatever while a girl can’t. Which isn’t completely true since they both have dress codes but schools are more strict to the girls. So it does not feel like it. This has actually been a big controversy at our school recently so to hear both but not all perspectives. I have interviewed an equal number of boys and girls from Atrisco Heritage Academy on this topic. All from different grades and with different ages to get more diverse opinions.

For the most part people disagree with the dress code. Felipe Martinez, a sophomore at AHA, has even taken the liberty of calling it “dumb.” Because that is what it is in these students' eyes ; a system where “ not being able to wear a tank top or a skirt that goes a little above your fingertips is too far” according to AHA freshman Nevaeh Gutierrez. It is seen as stupid because it often targets girls. Some think because they have more things to cover. Students like Frank Delwiche, a junior, even brought the weather into question saying “We are in 80 and 90 degree weather it gets hot”. Which gave more reason for people to be able to show some skin instead of covering up. He also mentioned that “We are in highschool we should be able to make our own decisions.” and “ It should be the people objectifying them who need to change. We should be going forward not back.” Which is also a common opinion with the interviews because Nicole Torres, an AHA senior, said something along the same lines as well Neveah. Nicole said “Nowadays people don’t care what others wear”. Neveah agreed and stated “because if a girl's regular body is a distraction to you. You may be the reason why girls are insecure.”

However; with all these opinions against it I had to ask if they still believed some rules should stick. Which they for the most part all agreed on as well. Basically saying that the rules should change to be more equal but there should be some control. The truth is the conclusion of it all and the message all these students spoke either in small or large sentences is a closing quote made by Nicole “Overall, dress code should not sexulize girls. It should be fair for all genders.”

School Lunches: Give Us More Options & Nutrition!

By Christopher Torres

Students have disliked school lunches for many years now and have wanted to see it changed. A couple years ago they changed the lunches across the country to make them healthier. However it has received a lot of backlash from students. Many students have said the lunches do not taste that good and that can be from the low quality food and many kids said we should have more time for lunch because they feel like they don't get enough time. Other kids feel like we should have more options for food. Everyone's opinions are different about school lunches.

Schools tried to make their lunches more nutritious but students believe they do the opposite. School lunches are packed and are just warmed up. There not much nutritional value in this. When asked if the scool nutritous Cheyenne Elwell a sophomore here at AHA said , “No, I think they try to have them be nutritious but they’re not because everything is packaged.” Personally, I don't mind if it is packaged, I would still eat it. They also have to keep the food packed to keep it from spoiling and it's more convenient. “

Even if it was more nutritious, would kids even get lunch? From my interviews students said they would and one said she wouldn't. However many students probably wouldn't like the lunches. Deliyah Marquez, a sophomore at AHA said,'' I wouldn't like it because I am a picky eater and don't really like fruits or vegetables.”  Another student, including a senior here at Atrisco Heritage Tulsa Trujillo, said, “ I would like to have chicken nuggets and mashed potatoes.” Many want more foods that our age likes. The big question is would students who want the lunches to be more nutritious even get it? A lot of people our age dont even like healthy food so it wouldn't attract them anyways.

These are just a few of the many students' opinions here at school. School lunch has always been a major topic. If it was up to you would you change the school lunch, and if so how exactly?

Are Masks Restricting?

By Mario Diaz

The ongoing issue of people not wanting to wear masks continues. The main question is do they have a logical reason? I interviewed three people to see other views on this topic. They all had very different opinions and were interested to see other people’s opinions on an issue like this. There are very mixed opinions when it comes to wearing masks indoors, outdoors, etc. There is a bit of leeway, but how do people feel about it?

When I interviewed my first person at Atrisco Heritage Academy, 11th grader, Ashley Cabral, she had an interesting opinion on the topic. She felt people should wear masks no matter the circumstances unless it is something savere. When I asked her about people having to wear masks that have health conditions such as asthma she said, “They should not have to wear a mask when exercising but inside they should be fine” There was a lot of similarities with the answers to this question, they all agree that if you have a serious health condition you should not have to wear a mask when doing physical activities but otherwise they should be fine.

My interview with Sophomore Andy Montoya was very plain, but he did have a strong opinion on wearing masks. He feels there are no circumstances where you should not have to wear a mask even during exercise. For his whole interview he says, “No, I don't think so. They should still wear masks. They should still wear them. He has asthma and still wears his. No.Ehh no.” He was very set on his opinion that people have no excuses not to wear a mask.

When I interviewed my dad it was very interesting because he does a lot of physical activities. He teaches gym classes and spins bike classes. They used to make you wear your masks during the class then stopped but they are forced to wear them again. When I asked him if the task affects him when he does physical activities. He said, “ Yes, especially when I am coaching my classes. We are required to wear masks during our classes and when you are working out for hours it makes it hard.” Working out cardio for an hour straight can really affect your breathing and when you are wearing a mask it will interrupt a lot.

In conclusion, there are many different opinions on wearing masks. Some people may agree with it and some may disagree. The arguments against wearing them are very good arguments and hard to fight. Two of the three people I interviewed were pretty set on their opinion of wearing masks no matter what. The disagreements on wearing masks are really good because they are big problems. When you have health issues there is nothing you can do about it. For people with asthma there is nothing they can do about not being able to breath in a mask.
